Author of the Jimmy O'Brien novels
There are three biographies; the one on the book covers, the
short one below—it's a little more accurate than the book
cover—and the long one. I'm not going to write the long one.
I'll leave that to some university grad student who, after
maybe a few hundred years, discovers my books and decides
to do his thesis on me instead of Shakespeare.

The Short One: . . . Just the facts . . .
Born in Los Angeles on September 22, 1941.When I was a kid in
grade school my dad bought a ranch in Southern Utah. Horses,
mountains, bubbling streams, and snow, lots of snow, it was
heaven. But after a few short years we moved back to L.A. My
family—mom, dad, and my two brothers and two sisters—finally
settled in Downey where I went to high school and there met
Judy, my wonderful wife to be.
For most of my adult life I've been in business for myself. I've
owned companies that made and sold food related products. But
as a lark, I was once a partner in a political public relations firm.
Some of the politicians in my books are based on the candidates
we've handled. I guess that's why we folded the tent and
sneaked away. Our guys were losers and we weren't good
enough to make them look like winners. A few years ago I sold
my business—boy, could I write a book about that—and started
a new career, writing mystery novels.
Judy and I have been married for over forty years now. We
have three beautiful and talented daughters, Kristin, Karen, and
Holly. We also have the most fantastic grandchildren a person
could imagine. Anton is the oldest, followed by Isabella, next is
Max, then Noah, and finally Zane. Well, Zane isn't the last one
now. My daughter Holly and her husband Tom, on January 25,
2006, presented us with a new grandson. The little guy's name is
Eliot...whoops, eighteen months later, on August 9, 2007, Holly
had another baby. The gorgeous little girl is named Zoe.
All in all—like the title of my favorite movie—it's been
"A Wonderful Life."

Judy with me at the wheel of an
exotic pickup truck once owned by
the avant-garde artiest and custom
car designer, Von Dutch.
The picture was taken a couple of
years ago. Judy hasn't changed,
and the only thing about me that's
different is my glasses.
My first novel, Six to Five Against, is dedicated to
my mother, Dorothy Rose Sherratt who passed
away before the book was finished. Dorothy was a
wonderful person and was an inspiration to all who
knew her. Her family and I miss her enormously.
