Six to Five Against
One, Two and Even
Beautiful ex-hooker, Laura, had a pre-nup when she married
the rich meatpacker, Arnie Rosenthal, the Los Angeles hot dog
king. But the prenuptial had a loophole, and now lovely Laura
needed a topnotch criminal lawyer. She called the only person
she could trust, the only person who helped her in the past,
Jimmy O'Brien.

It wasn't the loophole in the agreement that got her in trouble.
No, it  was a bullet hole. It was the bullet hole in the back of
Arnie's head that was causing all the problems.

One, Two and Even is the second novel in the new and exciting
Jimmy O'Brien series.
It is 1972. In the exciting and fast-paced novel, Six to Five Against, the
setting is Downey and the surrounding Southern California area. Jimmy
O'Brien, novice lawyer, is handed the case of a lifetime. Senator
Welch's attractive assistant is murdered, and the police have arrested
her gardener. With the help of Sol Silverman, veteran investigator,
O'Brien succeeds in his mission, and in the process brings down an evil
criminal organization. The investigation takes O'Brien from the track at
Del Mar, to the farm town of Manhattan Kansas, the neon strip of Las
Vegas, and to the glitz of a Beverly Hills fund raiser.   Along the way he
accepts favors from a judge, is threatened by a garbage mogul, and
learns Sol's secret method of handicapping the ponies. The cast
includes a beautiful DA, an irrepressible secretary, and of course a
totally wicked villain.

Robbie Farris stabbed his junior college professor twenty-seven times.

At his arraignment, after he pulls a gun and escapes, and after his mother is
found murdered in her shabby house trailer, Robbie’s lawyer, Jimmy O’Brien, is
led into the seemingly unrelated worlds of high-profile, religious evangelism and
old-fashioned Mojave Desert borax mining.

Jimmy fights the clock, the cops, and the DA in his effort to find and return Robbie
before he himself is charged with Section 187—murder in the first degree.

The well-paced story is populated by a host of eccentric characters that
literally jump off the page. You'll have as much fun reading it as Jeff had
putting it down on paper--and I had editing it.

THE BRIMSTONE MURDERS by Jeff Sherratt:  Ex-cop and now attorney
Jimmy O’Brien has his problems.  The police suspect him of murdering the
alcoholic mother of a client.  She is found dead with Jimmy’s card in her
hand.  O’Brien had been to see her to obtain her consent for him to attempt
to have her son Robbie declared insane in order to save him from conviction
for murder.  Then Robbie steals a deputy’s gun at the court hearing and
escapes.  Can things get any worse for this Los Angeles criminal defense
attorney?  Oh yes, the challenges are just beginning.  Like, where is his
missing gun?  The one that the cops think killed Robbie’s mother.  A breezy
read about cults, criminals, and the trials and tribulations of attorneys.
Reminiscent of David Rosenfelt or Paul Levine.
